Tips on Bride Gowns

Selecting the right bridal dress amongst the hundreds to thousands of bride gowns available can be a daunting task without some help. It is for this reason that we share a few tips on bride gowns.

Trouble with the hips?

We have a few pointers to help you select bride gowns to emphasize your best attributes while hiding flaws.

Avoid clingy fabrics

If you have a few flaws that you want to hide then you should stay away from bride gowns made from clingy fabrics. The more structured fabrics help to hide flaws better.

Empire waist is the answer to the pear shaped body

If you want to hide the hips, go for one of the empire bride gowns. With the waist just under the bust line and the rest of the garment not being tight around the hips, you will be able to successfully hide the pear shape hips. The guests will focus on the smallest part of your body, which will be the rib case.

Small bust and large hips?

The next step is to find a bridal couture boutique that will be able to provide the garments of choice. Knowing that the bridal couture boutiques can be rather expensive, many brides never even consider the option. If the boutique however, is also the sole importer of a range that is custom made, you will save a lot of money and still be able to wear a rather unique garment.

Stay clear from strapless bride gowns

Although always in fashion, strapless wedding dresses are not always the answer for big hips and pear shaped bodies. If you want to create a more balanced look, go for a square neckline and for straps select the triangle types that drape over the shoulders. This will help to make the hips look smaller than they really are. Nothing as good as a bit of illusion to create the right effect!

Stay clear from too full skirts

Naturally we think that by going with a fuller skirt, we will be able to hide the hips. The opposite effect is created by the full skirt. Rather go with an A-cut skirt that will not have pleats. In this way some of the fullness of the hips is taken away.

Best way to draw attention away from flaws - emphasize the positive

Ever noticed how people can completely miss a flaw by having them focus on the positive? It works exactly the same when it comes to wedding dresses. Put a bit of glamour nearer to the face with stunning accessories and make sure that everything above the waist looks stunning. You can be sure that no-one will even notice the hips.

Matching bust and hips

You can still create the effect of an hourglass figure if the bust and hips are about the same size by going with a drop waist bridal garment. Armed with the above tips you will now be able to select amongst the five main waistlines available for wedding dresses:

Natural

It is the perfect type for thin brides who don't mind putting emphasis on the waist. It is the ideal type for the hourglass figure.

Basque

It is a V shaped waistline type directly on the natural or just below the natural waistline. It is well suited for the hourglass figure and can even work for the pear shaped figure.

Dropped

The waistline is just below the natural waistline and it helps to create the illusion of a longer torso, which makes it perfect for the bride with a short torso.

Empire

It is the ideal type for the pear shaped body and is also well suited for the bride that has a long waist. It can even work well for the small built bride.
