Widows in India in the past would sometimes wear purple for a time of mourning, while wearing green would be the same as to place a spell on your marriage in some cultures. Regarding modern European cultures – fortunately most colors are acceptable since few people are superstitious in contemporary society.

White is the preferred color in western cultures to represent purity because of Biblical and Victorian influence, but modern day society allows for almost any color of choice.
