Bridal wear traditions
The wedding day incorporates numerous traditions from the family traditions of bridal wear to the customs of the specific culture. Many of the traditions surrounding bridal wear and the wedding ceremonies are still followed today although most people don’t have the same beliefs as from which the traditions stemmed.
There are some awkward traditions such as the custom of selecting bridesmaid dresses and best man attire similar to the wedding couple. The custom, which luckily is not practiced often, is based on the superstition that it would confuse evil spirits.
Veils as part of bridal wear, originated in the tradition that the groom should not see the bride until they kiss or least when he meets her in the aisle. The veil is worn today simply as an adornment although older generations still see it as unlucky for the groom to see the bride on the day of the wedding before they meet for the ceremony. Beautiful veils still contribute a mystical element and as such will be in fashion for years to come.
Another tradition that is not strictly adhered to in contemporary society is the colour of the dress. Although a bride had normally worn white on the day of her wedding, it is now acceptable to marry in any colour dress fitting the occasion.
One of the traditions still adhered to is the something old and something new, something blue and something borrowed. The tradition signifies loyalty in blue, link to families with old, new for the new life together and borrowed to signify support of family. No matter which of the traditions you still follow, you will find our collection of bridal wear to reflect the old and the new. |
